Hi Ona
Information
Please find a brief summary on what has been progressed with the below CDS provided by S9(2)(a)
S9(2)(a)
Ōtaki and Te Tai Hauauru
Act
Life to the Max
1982
Pasifika for Tomorrow is a small Pasifika group that has been working alongside Life to the Max
Horowhenua (LTTM) to secure a Community Development Scheme. Several discussions have
been had between the group, LTTM and the department about community development and the
outcomes for Pasifika in Horowhenua.
A new work plan and budget has been submitted and accepted with a strong emphasis on:
· Increasing Pasifika community participation
· Celebrating cultural identity
· Building relationships with a Pasifika perspective and
· Pasifika leadership
Unfortunately one of the key personnel from LTTM has left. LTTM has had several meetings and
no longer feel that the Pasifika programme is a good fit with them as they wish to focus on their
core business of youth development. Pasifika for Tomorrow has identified a new organisation
that are interested in supporting and mentoring them through the community development
scheme. The community group already runs literacy programmes for Pasifika in the community
and would be a good fit.

Life to the Max
The Pasifika community in Horowhenua is a fast growing population. The
vision of this project is for the community to become a thriving and connected
community with their health, social, education and economic needs being
met.
A number of fono have been held that have bought the Pasifika community
together and it has emerged that a number of the Islands are prepared to
work together to progress community development. Samoan, Tongan, Kiribati,
Tuvaluan and Papua New Guinea community members, church leaders,
Horowhenua District Council, schools and employment places are working
together so that Pasifika can realise their dreams and come up with solutions
to their own issues. The Community Development Project Worker will support
a community development framework for this Pasifika community.
Janice – Crown Panel were keen to support this request as a Pasifika led CDS
in an area of high Pasifika population growth and believe this has lots of
potential to achieve community value. Concern was that the planning
identifies a “navigator” role and some of the framing relates more to a service
delivery function – connecting individuals with services. The Crown Panel
asked that this be clarified with the group and that there is some support to
ensure that the scoping has a clear CD focus.
