We refer to your request for information dated 1 November 2017 requesting information regarding the 
Tetratrap catchpit screen. 
 
Auckland Transport’s response to your request for information is as follows: 
 
1)  All costs involved in the development and design of the Tetratrap catchpit screen; 
 
These  costs  are  unknown  to  Auckland  Transport  as  they  were  incurred  prior  to  the 
establishment  of  Auckland  Transport  and  no  records  are  available  regarding  the  cost  of 
development and design of Tetratrap.  Your request is therefore refused under section 17(e) of 
the LGOIMA as the information requested does not exist. 
 
2)  Yearly construction and installation costs for the last 10 years. Please also provide the 
number of Tetratraps this relates to; 
 
  Approximately  2800  Tetratraps  have  been  installed  to  date  and  the  cost  range  for 
installation is between $850 to $1000 each, depending on size of existing catchpits and 
road location. 
  10 year spend is in the range of $2.4 m to $2.8m (inclusive of professional services, 
manufacture and installation). 
 
3)  Yearly  maintenance  costs  for  the  last  10  years.  Please  also  provide  the  number  of 
Tetratraps this relates to. 
 
The yearly maintenance cost is estimated to vary between 10% – 30 % of the catchpit cleaning 
cost over the last 10 years. This relates to the total number installed which was zero, 10 years 
ago but now sits at 2800. The majority of these have been installed over the last 3 years. 
 
We trust the above information has addressed the matters raised however, should you believe that we 
have not responded appropriately to your request, you have the right in accordance with section 27(3) 
of the LGOIMA to make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review 
in regard to this matter.
