Purpose
This document provides for:
safe and effective operations on ships.

Requirements for Ships
Executive Officers’ responsibilities
Act
Chief Fire Officers wil issue a procedure for the management of incidents involving ships, if it is
relevant for their Fire District.
Fire Region Managers wil ensure that every Fire District in the Fire Region has a procedure in
accordance with this instruction, if it is applicable.
Local procedures
Local procedures wil take into account:
liaison with the person in charge of the vessel
liaison with the shipping agent, port company, or commanding officer (if naval base)
Information
locating the ship’s fire plan
initial damage survey of the ship
assessment of the ship’s main and auxiliary engines, firefighting systems and fire pumps
ensuring that the stability of the ship is monitored
assembling adequate resources: Official
- relief crews
- breathing apparatus the
- foam
environmental considerations
the safe transportation of resources to and from the ship
setting up a command and control system
under
vessels in dry dock.
The procedure shall include the possibility that the ship may be offshore and wil then include:
transportation methods
the availability of specialised equipment
pre-planned roles and responsibilities
liaison with other services.

Hazard control
Al hazards will be control ed by eliminating, isolating where elimination is impracticable, or
minimising, using one or more of the control methods given below.
