Dear Shannon
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (“LGOIMA”):
Request for Information
I refer to your email dated 09/06/18 requesting information on water rights for 2 Matipo
Street, Christchurch. Your request has been referred to me to reply.
You ask if water rights have been granted for 2 Matipo Street, and if so, for what
purpose.
There are currently two active water permits at this address: CRC970565.1 and
CRC181993, both of which are issued to Sanford Limited (commonly referred to as
Sanford Seafoods).
Resource consent CRC970565.1 commenced on 26 October 2011, and is for industrial
purposes.
Resource consent CRC181993 commenced on 17 October 2017, and replaced an
existing consent at the site (CRC012826.2). The previous consent commenced on 30
November 2010 and was limited to the processing of seafood. There is no change in
the rates of volumes consented under CRC181993 than were consented under
CRC012826.2, but the applicant applied to add additional uses. These additional uses
are for industrial and commercial activities, including food, water and beverage
processing, packaging/bottling, wash down, cooling and ancillary uses at the site.
You can find out the details of these consents by entering the consent number
(starting with CRC) in the ‘search for a resource consent’ bar, which is about halfway
down our website homepage
(www.ecan.govt.nz). For information specifically about
water bottling consents please visit
:https://www.ecan.govt.nz/get-involved/news-and-
events/2017/water-bottling-whats-the-story/. You will be aware that if you are not satisfied with this response you are able to refer
this matter to the Office of the Ombudsman under s27 (3) of the Local Government
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
Please be advised that we now put LGOIMA responses that are in the public interest
onto our website. No personal details of the requester are given, but we do summarise
the essence of the request alongside the response.
