Dear Sir or Madam
Local Government Official Information And Meetings Act 1987
Library Staff
I refer to your request which we received on 27 June 2018, regarding information relating to
Auckland Libraries staff. Our response to your questions is as follows:
The number of people employed by Auckland Libraries
The total number of employees employed by Auckland Libraries as at 30 June 2018 was
947. This includes all permanent, fixed term and casual employees.
The number of people employed by Auckland Libraries being paid less than $20.55
per hour.
As at 1 June 2018 the number of employees paid less than $20.55 per hour was 340, of
which 29 are casual employees.
By way of context, Auckland Council has committed to paying a Living Wage to all Auckland
Council employees. Over a three-year period, the wages of all employees will be
progressively lifted each year until they reach an estimated $21 in September 2019.
These increases have already begun. With the exception of interns and trainees, from 1
September 2017 the wages of all employees were lifted to $18 per hour. From 1 September
2018 this will increase to $19.50 per hour before reaching an estimated $21 in September
2019.
In addition, as part of Auckland Council’s social equity considerations in its Remuneration
Policy, Auckland Council employees who receive less than $20.55 per hour will receive an
additional 0.5 per cent increase this year, with effect from 1 September 2018. This is on top
of the 2 per cent annual increase that will be applied to the whole organisation.
