REF: OIA-4271
Dear John,
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your enquiry, made through the FYI web site, to the NZ Transport Agency on 15 October
2018, requesting the following information under the Official Act 1982 (the Act):
“
Please provide me with rates of motor vehicle accidents and number and severity of
associated injuries on the roads between Governors Bay and Diamond Harbour (on Banks
Peninsula) over the last 5 years.”
The data you requested has been provided to you in the attached spreadsheet:
•
OIA-4271 Banks Peninsula.xlsx
In regards to the data provided, it is important to note:
•
The data is provided from the road traffic crash database; Crash Analysis System (CAS)
•
The data is for al police reported crashes for the years from 2013 to 2018, as recorded in CAS
as at 15 October 2018
•
This sheet includes data on crashes resulting in injury, and injuries from those crashes on
roads between Governors Bay and Diamond Harbour, Christchurch (see map in spreadsheet)
•
Traffic crash data covers all NZ roadways and places where the public have legal access with a
motor vehicle
•
As a result of police reporting time frame and subsequent data processing, there is a lag from
the time of a crash to the time ful and correct crash records are available within CAS
•
It is believed that non-fatal crashes are under-reported, with the level of under-reporting
decreasing with the severity of the crash
•
The map provided is for reference only
