This data excludes day cases where a patient comes in for a procedure and is
attended to and released in the course of one day.

Data for 2016/17 and 2017/18 are considered incomplete; finalising data
generally takes several years as some hospitals report un-coded data to the
Ministry, which need to be entered, coded and loaded into the database.
Finalised data can be expected to be published in late 2020.

Long-term geriatric hospitals can have extremely long lengths of stay, which
consequently have a major impact on the ALOS. This is particularly evident in
non-DHB agencies as shown above.
