Dear Mr Johnstone
I refer to the email dated 13 November 2018 that you sent to the New Zealand
Police where you sought information pursuant to the Official Information Act
1982.
You specifically asked for the following information:
Please provide a breakdown of the number of dogs fatally shot by NZ
police officers in last 5 years whilst carrying out searches of private
property.
Table one below provides a count of the number of dogs fatally shot while
carrying out searches of private premises, and table 2 on page two provides data
on the number of dogs shot while a search of private property was being
undertaken, but without fatality confirmed.

The above data includes Tactical Option on Animal(s) reports which had
completed the review process as at 16 November 2018. Reports were included
where the location was
not reported as ‘Outdoor public area’, ‘Police public
counter’, ‘Police van’ or ‘Street/Highway/Motorway’ and the reason for attending
was to execute a search warrant or warrant to arrest, as stated in the report
narrative.
