[FYI request #9084 email]
Dear Mr Parshotam
Ref: 0053208
Official Information Act Request
Thank you for your request of 20 November 2018, asking for the following information
under the Official Information Act 1982:
“Could you please provide a breakdown summary as to the amount of ACC claims
that have been made due to transport-related injuries and their respective modes
of transport (e.g. cars, trucks, bicycles, scooters, skateboards).”
Our response
We collect data on an injured person’s mode of transport in cases where the accident
involved a motor vehicle and occurred on a public road. This includes injuries to
passengers and drivers of vehicles, as well as other road users (pedestrians, cyclists
etc) who were injured in a road accident. Please find cost information for this type of
accident in the table below.
As you will note, our data does not include ‘skateboard’ or ‘scooter’ as individual
categories. These types of vehicles may be captured within the other categories.

Notes
• The data was extracted on 29 November 2018, and may differ if re-run at a later
date.
• Costs include all payments recorded on active claims in the financial year. Active
claims include ‘new’ claims, lodged in that year, and ‘older’ claims, lodged in
previous years which are still receiving ACC support.
• Costs do not include acute treatment provided by public hospitals. Those costs are
bulk-funded by ACC, and the costs are not attributable to individual claims.
• Costs exclude GST.
