Dear Tim
Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Department of
Conservation, dated 4 December 2018. You requested the following:
‘Dear Department of Conservation,
re the Raukumara and surrounding areas - please name the individuals, hapu, iwi,
companies and or trusts that have given consent to poison the water supplies and
land of said areas. Name the individuals, hapu, iwi, companies and or trusts that
have not yet given consent for poisoning. Also please indicate whether or not the
parties being consulted above have been shown both the 1080 manufacturers (USA
and NZ based) MSDS for the toxin which specifically states not to contaminate any
water supply and in the case of the USA manufacturers where it states animals
killed by the toxins are to be buried at least one half mile from any human
habitation and water supply and preferably on land owned by the poisoner. If no
person or entity has yet consented, please indicate when they will be asked to do so
and whether or not both the MSDS will be discussed in their entirety prior to
requesting consent to poison water supplies and land.’
There are no consents for 1080 use in the Raukumara Ranges and surrounding areas
and no consents are currently being applied for. The Department is still in discussion
with the community on animal pest management in the Raukumara ranges.
Yours sincerely
