Dear Brock
Official information request for information related to gender-neutral
bathrooms
I refer to your official information request dated 21 March 2019:
“I seek to receive an updated version of this list of the gender-neutral bathrooms,
or bathrooms that could otherwise serve as gender-neutral (i.e. unisex or
accessible bathrooms) located on all Victoria University of Wellington campuses.
This list should reflect the developments to the university campuses that have
occurred since 2015 and be an exhaustive or otherwise fully comprehensive list
that includes enough information to make them easily located. This would include,
but not be limited to, the campus, building, floor and room the bathrooms are
located in.
I am also aware that you are able to, or direct to those who are able to, provide us
with individual detailed floor plans showing the locations of these bathrooms. I
would like for this information to be included in this request.”
Please find the attached list of all gender-neutral bathrooms (including bathrooms that
could otherwise serve as gender-neutral) located on all University campuses. Please note,
while signage on the bathrooms in the attached list doesn’t reflect the gender-neutral
nature of these spaces, they are designated for these purposes. The University is addressing
the issue with the current signage. The University has recently appointed Georgia Andrews
as the Rainbow and Inclusion Adviser. Her focus is on providing support for the
University’s Rainbow community.
The University is unable to provide the detailed floor plans requested. The floor plans are
stored on 73 separate detailed documents, and the time it would take to research and
collate this information would amount to substantial collation. Therefore, this portion of
your request is refused under section 18(f) of the Official Information Act 1982, as the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation and
research.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
