Thank you for your request of 25 March 2019, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1 Please provide information that would disclose the number of claims made due to injuries in the
back seats of Police Cars for the period January 2010 to date
2 Please provide information that would disclose the cost to the Accident Compensation
Corporation for these claims per respective years (Rather than in Banks of Collective years)
3 Please provide information that would disclose the number of injuries that resulted as a
Concussion/Cranial Contusion/Traumatic Brain Injury (all levels of severity)
4 Please provide information that would disclose the number that was Police Staff
Information provided on the ACC45 injury claim form is the basis of the data set available to ACC
The data set available to ACC is reliant on the information a person provides on their ACC45 injury claim
form, which is completed when a person seeks medical treatment for an injury. There are multiple fields
on this form, some of them mandatory to complete and others that are not.
There is a free-text field where a person can provide a brief description of how their accident occurred.
This is not mandatory to complete and not every client does so. When accident descriptions are
included on the ACC45 forms, there is significant variation in the nature and quality of the details
provided. Such inconsistencies mean any data identified cannot be considered to have a high degree of
accuracy.
We have not identified any claims related to injuries in the back seat of Police cars
We conducted a free-text search of the accident descriptions of accepted claims to identify claims with
the terms ‘Police car’ and ‘back seat’. No claims were identified. Therefore, we are unable to provide
you any information related to your requests.
