New Zealand Transport Agency
Dear Brodie
Thank you for your email of 17 June 2019 requesting below information
under the Official Information Act (1982):
How many, if any, people have filed a statutory declaration for change of
gender on their driver's licence in the past five years, broken down by
year?
The purpose of this email is to seek clarification on your preferred
approach.
The first option, we can provide the data where the gender in the Driver
Licensing Register has been changed in the past five years. However, we
are unable to identify the causes. The change could be as a result of a
formal request to change supported by an original evidence of identity, by
statutory declarations or due to administrative error. Therefore, any
numbers provided would be indicative of requests for gender change but
would not be the actual number of formal requests received.
Second option, we can provide the number of statutory declarations sent
directly to the NZ Transport Agency Assessment Team for actioning in the
past five years. These requests are made direct to the Transport Agency in
circumstances where the customer has not been able to provide evidence of
identity documents showing the gender they would like reflected on the
Driver Licence Register or; when they are not due to complete a driver
licence application (such as a renewal or new class of licence). Please
note however these statistics will not show the number of people who have
completed the statutory declaration with the appropriate evidence of
identity at the agent.
You might find further information with regards to changing gender on the
driver licence record below helpful:

Much appreciated if you can advise us your preferred approach by emailing
us directly at [2][NZTA request email].
Kind regards

Sorry to be a nuisance but could I please get both lots of data (so the data where the gender marker has been changed and the number of statutory declarations)?
