Kauri dieback management
I refer to your email received on 3 September 2019, requesting information on Auckland
Council’s involvement in kauri dieback management.
The specific details of your request and our response is below:
1.
What is the history of the council’s awareness of kauri dieback’s spread across
Aotearoa New Zealand?
2.
What is the history of council’s approach to fighting kauri dieback?
3.
What is the council’s estimation of the extent of damage done by kauri dieback?

Auckland Council in December 2017, February 2018 and April 2018 which are available at

Also included is a recent memo presented to the commit ee in June 2019, which provides an
update on kauri dieback management actions undertaken in the Waitākere and Hunua
Ranges Regional Parks, and the council’s wider kauri dieback programme.

At any point did an entity, governmental or non-governmental, advocate for
keeping parks containing kauri open against the advice of experts?
Attachment F to the April 2018 report to the Environment and Community Committee
provides a summary of the public feedback on the proposal to close the Waitākere Ranges
Regional Park. This includes a range of views from community groups, individuals and
recreational users of the park on track closures.
