25 March 2020
Dear D Gounder
Thank you for your email of 4 March 2020 to the Associate Minister of
Immigration, Hon Poto Williams, under the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA), the following information:
1) The number of Ministerial Intervention Requests in the last five years
(January to December, 2010 to 2019 and January to current date for 2020)
2) The number of Ministerial Intervention Requests in which the Minister
has chosen to intervene in the last five years (January to December, 2010
to 2019 and January to current date for 2020)
3) The internal process for when the Minister intervenes in Individual
Cases.
I am writing to advise you that the Minister will provide a response but
needs to extend the time available to answer your request. The Minister’s
response will be with you no later than 19 May 2020.
The reason for the extension is that consultations necessary to make a
decision on the request are such that a proper response to the request
cannot be made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Kind Regards
Craig Chambers
