Re: Weed control – chemicals and cost
Thank you for your emails of 4 January and 7, March 2021, where you repeated your earlier
request for information relating to weed control in Auckland by area for each year
commencing 2012 to 2019/20.
For ease of reference please see our response below pertaining to your questions:
1. The numbers of kms you treat[ed] for weed and vegetation control in each area
We provided you with 2015 and 2019 data in our response to your official information
request 8140007270. We are unable to provide any additional information as we do not
record it in the form you have requested.
2. The annual invoiced cost for weed and vegetation control for each area.
Our maintenance contracts are outcome based and the total value of the contract reflects
those outcomes. We do not invoice for specific tasks such as weed and vegetation control.
We are unable to provide the information requested because it does not exist. Please refer
to our previous response under official information request 8140007270 for the amount
invoiced to Auckland Transport in the 2019-/2020 financial year for all streetscape
maintenance, including mowing, litter collection, town centre cleaning and weed vegetation
control across Auckland.
3. The annual totals of the following chemicals (as active ingredient) used in each
area for your weed and vegetation control: glyphosate, metsulfuran methyl
(meturon), organosilicone, diethanol condensate (fatty acid) & any other
significant chemical.
On 17 December 2020 we advised that at the time of your initial request (8140007270) we
understood a report would be produced that would provide the information you were

seeking, and the report would be made publicly available. Unfortunately, that is no longer the
case. While it is our intention to make this information available to the public in future, we
cannot provide an expected date due to current resourcing and unforeseen circumstances.
The information we hold and can provide you is raw agrichemical usage data from Auckland
Transport from 2015 – 2017 and total agrichemical usage by product for 2017 – 2020.
Please let us know if you would like to receive this information. However, please note, that
the information we have provided is from Auckland Transport and we cannot comment on
the accuracy or completeness of the data. In addition, Auckland Transport report
agrichemical totals as the amount of concentrate used rather than the active ingredient used.
If you have any questions about the data, we suggest these are directed to Auckland
Transport.
Decisions relating to what information is being released to you were made by Kim O’Neill
Acting General Manager, Community Facilities.
Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request, you
have the right to seek an investigation and review of this response by the Ombudsman.
