I refer to your request for information as noted below.  

 

“Can you please quantify the financial cost to rates payers from needing
to manage and mitigate the poor behaviour of Cr Lee Vandervis? Please
include and direct and indirect costs including wasted time in council
sessions, wages of council staff and fees for contractors needing to
investigate and write reports and strategies around this, and anything
else relevant.”

We don’t record some of the information you have requested.  Meeting fees
are not paid to Councillors.  They are remunerated on an annual basis.
Staff are paid a salary and we do not record time except for certain
regulatory functions.  

 

The only readily accessible information we hold is the costs for external
legal advice and independent investigators for various matters since
September 2019.  That amount is $43,657 (including GST). 

 

Please note this does not include costs for a recent judicial
proceedings.  These are yet to be determined.  

 

Technically we have declined to provide certain information under section
17 (g) of LGOIMA as the information requested is not held by Council. 
Given that, I advise that you have the right to have this decision
reviewed by the Office of the Ombudsman (0800 802 602) or email
