Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
As i got the reply from one of your staff Aline (Customer Services Officer) underneath are some points to raise :
Aline : We were also prioritizing essential identity services including birth and
death registration, registration of citizenship by descent, and issuing
passports.
Before COVID, i assume citizenship department already have these identity services to workon as well when the processing times are less (3-5 months) ?
Aline: As a direct consequence of Covid-19, the number of citizenship
applications has significantly increased since March and a number of
Citizenship Officers were unable to work from the office.
Can you please put some light on data from last 3 years(including current year) how much citizenship applications has significantly increased?
First of all the applications increase because there was no application processed from March to May or June. So obviously this will make an significant increase. If department worked from Work from home the number will not increase.
As we are in modern era and also whole NZ is working from home who can, I assume Department of Internal Affairs doesn't have a way or enough resources to Work from home while COVID?
And i also didn't the get the reply for when the processing times are going normal (3-5 months)?

Dear OIA,
Hi Michelle
Sorry to say that but your reply is not matching the replies given by the customer service representative at citizenship office :(
As i talked with the CSR of Citizenship office , she was just replying me 7-12 months timeframe answer for every question i asked to her.
As the confirmation email i got after applying the application it states that 5-7 months. As per your reply above i think the whole process is 5-7 months?
As she (CSR citizenship office) explained me is 5-7 months to case officer and 7-19 months for the outcome which is not mention anywhere on the citizenship website.
As i asked her why its taking that much time she (CSR citizenship office) replied they have 100 thousand application coming but as per your stats given, from last three years each year have approx. 32000 application ....false information to public :( then she cover up that she don't have the real stats. Really.
As i asked her when the case officer will assign to my application , she (CSR citizenship office) told me 5-7 months to assign the case officer and 9-17 months for the outcome of application which is unrealistic timeline or i assume they are just giving false information to the public?
And i also asked about, Is the above timeframe mention on the website , she (CSR citizenship office) said they don't show on the website ...then how she is answering , Is she doing predictions?
I think the citizenship customer care is doing predictions and making fool of general public.
Is 5-7 months time is the whole completion process for citizenship application?
