"The Minister has reappointed Kai-Shek Luey, Virginia Chong and Richard Leung for a second term on the Trust. Malcolm Wong, Mark Ngan Kee, Paul Chin, Melissa Wong, and Elisabeth Mei-Xing Ngan have been appointed for their first terms. All terms commence on 15 May 2017 and expire on 14 May 2020."

May I ask when the department plan to call for nomination and how the nomination going to be look like, e.g. how you going to call for application from the public and what is your timeline looks like. What is the position description of the trustee.

Hello Mr Luke,

Thank you for your email of 11 December 2020 (below).

The Department is yet to provide information to the Minister for
Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities to make decisions about the
next appointment round for the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust, and the
timeline for these appointments is not yet compiled.

While there is no formal position description for the role in the Trust
deed, it states that trustees must be descendants of poll-tax payers.

The Trust further requires that trustees must be appointed having regard
to their expertise, knowledge, and ability to carry out impartially the
general objectives of the Trust. Desirable qualities of Trustees include:

•            longstanding activity in the poll-tax descendant and/or
Chinese community;

•            experience in governance or other funding distribution
agencies;

•            specialist skills such as knowledge of Chinese New Zealand
history and community language maintenance; and

•            voluntary experience in the wider community would be an
advantage.

Within the group of persons appointed as Trustees, it is desirable that
there be:

•            a reasonable demographic distribution of Trustees from around
the country; and

•            inclusion of market gardening or provincial interests.
