I refer to your information request dated 1 April 2021 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act).
The Official Information Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to s15A of the Act, of a short extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 8 working days - to 14 May 2021. However, we will endeavour to respond to you sooner if possible.
This extension is necessary to allow for further consultations necessary to make a decision on your request.
If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Ngâ mihi

Kia ora Katie
We refer to your information request dated 1 April 2021 made under the
Official Information Act 1982 (Act).
Please see below our response to each of the matters you raised in your
request.
General comments
o We have interpreted your request to mean the number of students who
applied for admission under the Māori admission sub-category and the
New Zealand Resident Indigenous Pacific Origins admission
sub-category.
o We do not report on numbers where those numbers are below 5. This is
for privacy reasons. Where the numbers of the candidates are very
low, there is a risk that the identity of those candidates could be
determined/inferred. Accordingly, we withhold this information
pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act.
o We decline providing the highest GPA scores pursuant to section
9(2)(a) of the Act, on the basis that we consider withholding of this
information is necessary to protect the privacy of the students. As
the number of students in these sub-categories is small, providing the
highest GPA score could infer certain personal information relating to
those students. For example, that a student could not have achieved a
grade higher than, for example, X, if the range of marks disclosed do
not contain any marks higher than X.
