Re: Galway Street Improvement Project
Thank you for your request for information on 16 May 2021 about the costs for city centre
Galway Street improvement project.
Part of your request has been transferred to Auckland Transport for a response in
accordance with section 12 of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA). However, for your ease of reference, I have liased with AT and their
response to you is also attached.
The details of your request and our response is below.
What was the original approved budget for this project?
The initial budget was $2.25 million based on an estimate developed in 2017 prior to any
detailed design work being undertaken and did not include the works to the intersection of
Gore Street and Galway Street. The approved budget upon commencement of the main
construction works, taking into account the full scope which included the upgrade of the
western footpath of lower Gore Street and the intersection of Gore Street and Galway Street
was $5.55 million.
What is the total cost to date?

Please provide a breakdown of how the monies were spent including What was the
budget split for materials?
Please refer to Auckland Transport’s response. In addition, early direct costs incurred by
council over financial years 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 that were attributable to the project but
outside the Downtown Infrastructure Development Programme were $7,000 for internal staff
time charges and $14,500 for professional services.

What was the source of funding for the projects by source?”
$530,000 of funding is provided from general rates. The remainder of the project funding is
from the City Centre Targeted Rate.
