Official information request regarding Rankine Brown building doors
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated 17 August 2021:
1. In what year were the current set of doors installed? Current including the
previous internal swing doors despite the fact they were replaced with a sliding
door last year.
2. Since that time, how many repair requests/maintenance issues have been logged
for these doors?
3. Approximately how many days have these doors been unusable or broken since
their installation?
4. What has been the total cost to the university to maintain and repair these
doors?
5. Has the university made any plans to replace the design of these doors, or have
any other designs been considered? If so, I'd like a copy of that information
included as part of this request.

the previous internal swing doors despite the fact they were replaced with a
sliding door last year.
The doors were installed in mid 2011.
2. Since that time, how many repair requests/maintenance issues have been
logged for these doors?
33 jobs have been recorded in the University’s maintenance system regarding these
doors.
3. Approximately how many days have these doors been unusable or
broken since their installation?
The doors have been unusable since 16 July 2021 when they were damaged due to bad
weather. We are currently waiting parts to become available to repair them. Providing
further information regarding the amount of time these doors have been unusable since
their installation would require substantial research which would impinge upon the
University’s ability to carry out its core functions. Therefore this aspect of your request is
refused in accordance with section 18(f) of the Act.
4. What has been the total cost to the university to maintain and repair
these doors?
$ 22,553.31 has been spent to maintain these doors since 2011 (an average of $2255 per
annum). These costs relate to component upgrades and renewals.
5. Has the university made any plans to replace the design of these doors,
or have any other designs been considered? If so, I'd like a copy of that
information included as part of this request.
There are no plans to replace the doors, and there are no alternative designs on file.
