We refer to your information request dated 3 September 2021 and made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act).

With respect to your request for the lowest and highest grade averages from Health Science First Year students to receive (i) first round offers and (ii) waitlist offers – in each case for entry to the 2021 Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Radiation Therapy programmes - we note that this request in its current form is extremely broad. This is particularly so because you have requested for this information in respect of each admission sub-category. It will take our staff extensive time to research and collate this information. Typically, when processing requests such as yours, we are likely to consider either proposing a charge or declining the request pursuant to section 18(f) of the Act on the basis that the request requires substantial collation or research.

Can you please confirm that you would be willing to pay a charge. In accordance with guidance from the Office of the Ombudsman, the rate we charge at is $38 per half hour, with the first hour free. Alternatively, are you able to reconsider the scope of your request to assist with making it more practically manageable to process? We can provide you with, at no cost, the highest academic score to receive an offer and the minimum academic score to receive an offer overall in the general category - for 2021 entry into each of the health programmes specified in your information request. Would that suffice?

We will wait to hear back from you before we continue to process your request.

Kia Ora Kelsey

I refer to your response submitted on the 10th of September, 2021.

Initially, I would like to thank you for promptly notifying me of the magnitude of my request and how it is impractical, and difficult to fully meet.

I confirm that I do not wish to pay a charge for the substantial collation that would be required from my initial request. Hence, I am changing the scope of my request so it is more manageable to process.

You stated that at no extra cost, you would be able to provide me with the highest academic score to receive an offer and the minimum academic score to receive an offer overall in the general category - for 2021 entry into each of the health programmes specified in my information request.

I highly appreciate this offer, however, I would like to propose a counter request that has even less scope than what you have offered.

I would like to formally request the highest academic score to receive an offer and the minimum academic score to receive an offer (first round and waitlist) overall in only the refugee category for 2021 in only the MB ChB, and BDS programmes.

Is the scope of my adjusted request small enough to not incur additional monetary charges? If so, I would like to submit this request, and if not then please notify me so that I may narrow its scope further.

Kind regards,

Anish.
