[FYI request #17280 email] Dear Bruce
Thank you for your email of 20 October 2021 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
I request the following information for the 1 January 2021 to 18 October 2021 (or similar dates):
1. The number of arrivals into MIQ facilities from flights from Australia by day.
2. Of the above, the number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 during their stay in MIQ by day
3. Of the above returnees who tested positive, from which testing day was their positive result
returned.
4. Which dates in 2021 a pre-departure test was required before flying to New Zealand from
Australia.
As you were advised on 2 November 2021, parts 2, 3, and 4 were transferred to the Ministry of Health
under section 14 of the Act as the requested information is more closely aligned with their functions.
In regard to part 1 of your request, please find attached the document
Arrival Data which contains data
on arrivals from Australia on a daily basis from 1 January 2021 to 17 October 2021.
Please note, this data has been collated by using the National Border Solution database and counts how
many arrivals have a ‘Port of Origin Country Name’ as ‘Australia’ or other equvalents such as ‘Aus’. The
‘Port of Origin Country Name,’ contains the last country visited before arriving in New Zealand. Some
arrivals counted will have come from countries other than Australia and stopped over at Australia before
arriving in New Zealand.
I trust you find the information useful. You have the right under section 28(3) of the Act to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman of my decision to transfer your request. The relevant details
can be found at

Yours sincerely
