University of Auckland
Dear John,
I refer to your request of 8 January 2022. This request, as currently
framed, will not be possible to meet without substantial collation or
research. Your request is framed so broadly as to encompass all
correspondence held by the University of Auckland on a particular subject
matter, by many members of the University on individual email accounts (as
well as potentially other such systems). Unless you narrow your request
substantially, the University may have to refuse it under section 18(f) of
the Official Information Act 1982, which applies where information cannot
be made available without substantial collation or research.
Please let us know before 11 February 2022 whether you are prepared to
substantially narrow your request and, if so, how. Note that requests for
information that would require several University members to manually
collate a large volume of correspondence held on individual email accounts
(and other systems on which correspondence may be held) are likely to
require substantial collation or research.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Ewert

Dear John,
I refer to your request of 8 February 2022. For the reasons stated in my
email of 8 February 2022, your request is not possible to meet without
substantial collation or research. You have not amended your request in
response to my email of 8 February. Accordingly, the University has
decided to refuse your request under section 18(f) of the Official
Information Act 1982. Neither imposing a charge nor extending the time
limit for your request would enable your request to be granted.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Ewert
