Dear Vanessa Warren
Official Information Act request relating to communications between PM,
Cabinet, Police and Andrew Coster
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),
received on 8 March 2022. You requested:
“All communication, via email, telephone calls, text messages or minutes of
meetings held between the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and/or her cabinet
ministers, Police Commissioner Andrew Coster or other members of the NZ
Police/NZ Defence Force and the contents of the discussions, emails, text
messages, phone calls and minutes of meetings between the below mentioned
ODESC. Communications sought above are directly related to the Wellington
Protest between 1st February 2022 and Current date of writing for transparency.
These communications requested also need to include any debriefs held
between any of the above mentioned parties of interest specifically once the
Wellington Protest ended.”
I believe that the information you have requested is more closely connected with the
functions of the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern. Accordingly, I have decided
under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act to transfer your request to the Prime Minister.
Consequently, I have also extended the time limits of your request by an additional 5
working days in order to make this transfer. The extension is necessary in order to
undertake consultations with the Prime Minister’s Office on the transfer of your request.
The Prime Minister has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this transfer
to make a decision on your request.
Yours sincerely
