use of Kai iwi lakes campground
Grace Haden made this Official Information request to Northland Regional Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Grace Haden
Dear Northland Regional Council,
please provide the meeting notes and rationale for excluding members of the public from the camp ground who are members of the vaccine control group
I would in particular like to see the research and or rationale for permitting people to stay in the camp ground between 730 am and 930 pm but prohibiting persons from camping overnight in fully self contained vehicles when public facilities are not going to be used .
this action appears to be excessively discriminatory especially when women on their own were not allowed to have the safety and protection of he confines of a campground
I do not believe that any consideration has bene given to this aspect and seek an explanation as to why a vax pass port is required only between certain hours in the lake surrounds and campground areas. .
Yours faithfully,
Grace Haden

From: Administration Requests
Hi Grace
I’m not sure I understand what a vaccine control group is but as of the
10th December 2021, vaccine passes have been required to camp at the Kai
Iwi Lakes campgrounds. Currently, day visitors are not required to present
a vaccine pass, but that may be reviewed later. We encourage day visitors
to scan in with their tracer app when entering the Taharoa Domain and/or
using the shared facilities. Our priority continues to be the safety of
our campers, visitors and staff. We made the decision to make camping at
the Kai Iwi Lakes vaccine passport sites based on the COVID protection
framework - 'Action needed to protect at-risk populations'.
Attached is our Vaccination Policy and protection framework overview. The
COVID-19 vaccination policy is designed to keep our employees and others
safe, in accordance with Council’s obligations under the Health and Safety
at Work Act 2015. These decisions were made based on factors which include
the increased risk of transmission or infection of COVID if staff have
regular contact with members with the public. There are no meeting notes
relating solely to excluding members of the public from the camp ground.
There is no requirement for those who have fully self contained vehicles
not to use the public facilities.
Under the Covid-19 Protection Framework organisations can decide to use
the Covid Vaccination Certificate (CVC) system, even if they are not a
regulated business. Council implemented the CVC system at the campgrounds
due to us heading into the busiest season of the year, and the serious
concerns we have around possible harm to staff and the community due to
the level of contact that staff have with people at the campground. The
CVC system is a reasonably practical step to ensure our staff and
community are safe. We may revisit our decision to use the CVC system at
the green light and during our quieter season. We will notify the public
if this is the case.
Regards Linda

Dear Administration Requests,
thank you for your response
However my question " I would in particular like to see the research and or rationale for permitting people to stay in the camp ground between 730 am and 930 pm
but prohibiting persons from camping overnight in fully self contained
vehicles when public facilities are not going to
be used ." has not been answered
two ladies with their own self contained vehicles were denied the right to stay in the campground how could this possibly be a danger to any one especially when we were welcome during the hours 7.30am - 930 pm. I do not believe that any one has given this aspect any thought
a vaccine control group member cannot be vaccinated the relevant web site is https://members.vaxcontrolgroup.com/veri...
we were totally discriminated against and your iwi representative told me to go back to Napier ..not friendly at att !!!
Yours sincerely,
Grace Haden
