requesting the following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Does the market rent data on the tenancy services website include rent increases where
the landlord does not update the bond amount?
Does the market rent data on the tenancy services website include rent increases where
the landlord does update the bond amount?
Does the bond data that is used for the market rent data on the tenancy services website
have any review to make sure that the correct box has been ticked on the bond
lodgement form when selecting the type of property?
What is the New Zealand Government's required sample size to create a valid and
accurate statistic?
Has the market rent data on the tenancy services website been col ected and processed
in a robust manor according to Statistics New Zealand's guidelines?
Can we please have access to all the market rent raw data for Newlands and Johnsonville
over the last year including Street, type of property, number of rooms and rent amount?
Please find below my response to each of your questions.
Does the market rent data on the tenancy services website include rent increases where the landlord
does not update the bond amount?
Does the market rent data on the tenancy services website include rent increases where the landlord
does update the bond amount?
Tenancy Services is not notified of rent increases for properties, as rent amounts are only recorded
when a bond is lodged. There is no legal requirement for a landlord to notify Tenancy Services of rent
increases, which can only be done every 12 months.

The market rent data on the website is updated on a six month rol ing period and only includes bonds
which have been lodged with a new tenancy start date within that period. Instances where the
landlord has updated the bond amount are not included.
What is the New Zealand Government's required sample size to create a valid and accurate statistic?
Please contact Statistics New Zealand who are best placed to respond to this question.

manor according to Statistics New Zealand's guidelines? The market rent data on the Tenancy Services website is managed in a robust manner in line with
the Statistics New Zealand guidelines.
Can we please have access to all the market rent raw data for Newlands and Johnsonville over the
last year including Street, type of property, number of rooms and rent amount?
The attached provides market rent data for the Newlands and Johnsonvil e suburbs based on bonds
that started in the previous 12 months. Please note, where there are fewer than five bonds lodged,
this information has been withheld pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect the privacy of
individuals.
