I refer to your Official Information Act request, which was transferred to
the University of Otago from the Ministry of Health on 8 August 2022. You
have requested “how many, if any, first year medical and nursing students
at Otago University have been asked to complete fill-in shifts at Dunedin
Hospital, and if so what remuneration opportunities have they been
offered?”

 

I note that no first year medical students at the University of Otago have
been asked to complete fill-in shifts at Dunedin Hospital.

 

Please note that the University of Otago does not offer an undergraduate
Nursing programme, so we are unable to advise how many, if any, first year
Nursing students have been asked to complete fill-in shifts at Dunedin
Hospital. Therefore, we decline providing a response to this aspect to
your request pursuant to section 18(g) of the Act on the basis that the
information is not held by the University of Otago, however we understand
that your request has also been transferred to another agency who may be
able to answer this question for you. The University of Otago does offer a
postgraduate Master of Nursing Science programme, however we note that no
students in their first year of this programme have been asked to complete
fill-in shifts at Dunedin Hospital.

 

If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request,
section 28(3) of the Act provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman
to investigate and review this response. However, we would welcome the
opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
