From: Damien De Ment
Dear University of Auckland,
On you website (https://www.tepunahamatatini.ac.nz/ ) most pages have a footer that includes the information below
Te Punaha Matatini, A Centre of Research Excellence hosted by the University of Auckland
www.govt.nz
It goes onto show logos of various partners of Te Punaha Matatini, these logos include:
Auckland University
Canterbury University
Victoria University
Massey University
Motu
Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research
M.E research
Waikato University
Lincoln University
Otago University
LIC
AUT.
Please explain what NZ Govt ministry or department has oversight or jurisdiction of the research group known as Te Punaha Matatini? I ask this because your own website have a govt.nz URL in the footer with all other partners.
Please list all public or private funders to Te Punaha Matatini who have given funding in the last 24 months. Please include dollar amounts given. The annual reports provided on the TPM website are outdated and also do not provide the reasonable level of detail I am requesting.
Yours faithfully,
Damien De Ment

Dear Damien,
I refer to your request of 3 October 2022. The University’s response
follows:
“Please explain what NZ Govt ministry or department has oversight or
jurisdiction of the research group known as Te Punaha Matatini?”
The Tertiary Education Commission has oversight over Te Punaha Matatini.
“Please list all public or private funders to Te Punaha Matatini who have
given funding in the last 24 months. Please include dollar amounts given.”
The Tertiary Education Commission has provided the following funding to Te
Punaha Matatini over the period in question. The amounts specified below
are for funding for the relevant calendar year, not just that part of it
that falls into the 24 month period of your request.
2020: $2,193,000
2021: $3,096,500
2022: $4,000,000
No other public or private entities have given funding to Te Punaha
Matatini in the 24 months preceding your request.
Te Punaha Matatini’s annual reports posted online run until 30 June 2021.
Te Punaha Matatini is currently producing the annual report for the second
half of 2021, which will be published online before the end of the year.
Reports for 2022 will be produced and published on Te Punaha Matatini’s
website in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Landon Watt

It appears they were also funded by MBIE. Check this other OIA response:
"Through 2021, The Disinformation Project (as part of Te Pūnaha Matatini) carried out disinformation landscape reporting under a research grant through a COVID‐19 Response Fund (administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) which ended August 2021."
