Re-unite with overseas partner
Harsha Keerthirathne made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Harsha Keerthirathne
Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
I am working to bring my girlfriend into New Zealand with a general visitor visa. I met her in 2019 before I moved to NZ, and we have no evidence of living together. During that covid, I also worked in NZ and got my NZ residency.
I always stated as single when I made my previous application because I did not have any living together period with her. When I follow the application checklist, it asks me to provide living together details, which hurts me a little. Because I stayed in NZ last three years and there is no possible way to live together.
I assume many migrants are facing the same scenario. I only have social media conversations, some photos present and some fund exchanges. We are full of dreams and thoughts about being together other reopening the country.
Can you please advise us to sort out this long-distance relationship with this visa requirement?
Your kind and heartiest attention is highly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Harsha
