Dear Cody,
I refer to your request regarding the dumping of rubbish costs.
Thank you for your interest in our Rubbish, Recycling, and Organics operations. We were
unsure as to whether you were inquiring about rubbish or recycling specifically, so we
have split our response to cover both:
o A rejected truckload of recycling costs our ratepayers around $1,000 per load;

o On average, a truckload of rubbish collected from the red bins weighs around 6.2
tonnes, and the public disposal rate to landfill is $379.40 per tonne. Therefore, the
average cost of a truckload of rubbish is $2352.30, at the public rate. The
Christchurch City Council receives a discounted rate that is commercially sensitive,
witheld under LGOIMA s7(2)(h) – to enable any local authority holding the information
to carry out commercial activities.In the Council's view the reasons for withholding
these details are not outweighed by public interest considerations in section 7(1)
favouring their release.

Sorry, I did not have a chance to clarify my request. I was referring to "fly tipping" - where waste is disposed of in an unauthorised manner - for example, on the side of a street and needs to be collected by Council.
