Dear R S Grant
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 11 March 2023 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Can you please confirm whether the speed limit on the new Puhoi to Warkworth motorway wil be
100kph, as recently reported?
The proposed speed limits for the Ara Tuhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth project (including the section to
be designated motorway) were included in t
he Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan, for
which consultation closed on 12 December 2022. The proposed speed limit for the motorway section
is 100 km/h.
The maximum legal speed limit on NZ road is 110 kph. The default is 100 kph, which is the speed
limit consulted on in the interim speed management plan. Once the road is open Waka Kotahi wil
review the road for a possible 110 kph.
The outcome of the consultation, including the relevant documentation wil be released no later than
26 May 2023. Therefore, I am refusing this part of your request under section 18(d) of the Act because
the information requested wil soon be publicly available.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to refuse
part of your request. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
If you would like to discuss this matter further with Waka Kotahi, you are welcome to contact the
Ministerial Services team by email at
[NZTA request email]. Yours sincerely
