Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Manatū Hauora, the
Ministry of Health on 12 March 2023. Your request was transferred in full to Te Whatu Ora - Health
New Zealand on 14 March 2023 as the information is more closely connected with the functions of
our agencies. You requested:
“I have been hearing a lot about the long wait times etc at Accident and
Emergency (A&E) departments in hospitals in New Zealand.
I am aware some of this is due to insufficient staff, as reported on the news.
What I would like to know is what are the figures for the last 5 years on the
numbers of people turning up at A&E departments in the different health boards
in New Zealand?
If you could do totals on a yearly basis that would be great.”
