Addition of the Crown to the Fire and Emergency Crest
Thomas A. made this Official Information request to Fire and Emergency New Zealand
The request was refused by Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
From: Thomas A.
Dear Fire and Emergency New Zealand,
I would like to request all communications and guidelines about the addition and use of the crown with the Fire and Emergency crest.
I would also like to know how much the addition of the crown has cost and any plans to implement it across the organisation (ie. updating current signage, uniforms, vehicles etc).
I am making this request after seeing the crown added to the Fire and Emergency crest on an appliance.
Yours faithfully,
Thomas A.

Dear Official Information Requests,
I'm unsure of the callsign, but it was an older-style aerial appliance that I saw driving around Auckland that had the crown above the crest.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas A.

Dear Official Information Requests,
I've just come across this photo that shows the crown above the crest on the older-style aerial appliance I saw in Auckland. http://www.111emergency.co.nz/FIRE/Appli...
I've also had a look at the Visual Identity Guidelines you mentioned which have been released on the FYI website, and the Formal Royal Badge seems more detailed than the crest seen on the truck - therefore one would presume it is a different crest from those in the VIG.
You also mentioned the Formal Royal Crest isn't approved for use anywhere. Was the crown above the crest on this fire truck not approved?
Yours sincerely,
Thomas A.

Kia ora Thomas,
Thanks for letting us know. Our fleet team inspected the appliance with
the crown added to its crest, and it is different from the crown on the
Formal Royal Badge.
It had not been approved for use and has been removed.

Dear Official Information Requests,
I would like to know when the crown was added to Hamilton 415, who got it added and why it was added.
Please consider this a new information request.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas A.

As advised, the addition of the crown was not approved. We do not know who added it, when they added it or why. Staf will be reminded that unauthorised variation of the brand (including the crest) is not permitted.
