Monica made this Official Information request to Health New Zealand
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Monica to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Monica
Dear Health New Zealand,
I would like to receive all information regarding the response by District Health boards to "Continuity of Care and Safe Follow up of Patient Investigations: Letter of Expectations" by the Council of Medical Colleges.
This letter was addressed to District Health boards in June 2021, but I can not find any further correspondence. You can see the letter on this webpage, under 2021 https://www.cmc.org.nz/resources/submiss...
Questions:
1)Was there a formal response to the Council of Medical Colleges? If so, can I please see a copy.
2) Was there any correspondence between DHBs (or to each DHB from a central source?
3) What action was implemented following this letter in 2021?
4) Under Health NZ, are all expectations set out in this letter being met?
Yours faithfully,
Monica

Dear hnzOIA,
Hello,
Apologies, I was not aware that you were questioning my eligibility. I am a NZ citizen living in New Zealand, therefore eligible to request information.
I wonder why you were asking me to confirm my eligibility, when I note that you have not made the same request to others requesting information?
Yours sincerely,
Monica

Thank you for your email. You are right that this is not something we have
always required in the past, but we are moving to an approach of
requesting eligibility by default. This is consistent with the OIA, the
Ombudsman's guidance and the approach of some other agencies. For example,
please see the Treasury's approach here:
[1]https://fyi.org.nz/body/the_treasury
As a result, we would be grateful if you could send confirmation of your
eligibility to [2][Health New Zealand request email]. Once that has occurred, we will
continue to engage with you via the FYI website.
I trust that this clarifies the matter sufficiently.

As previously noted, we are moving to more frequently verifying requests
submitted via FYI when we cannot confirm the eligibility, in line with the
Ombudsman guidance. We also consider whether a request should be responded
to even if the requestor isn't eligible in the public interest. I can
confirm that this assessment has occurred in your case.
If you would like to continue with this case, please send your eligibility
to [1][email address].
If you are not happy with this response, you have the right to make a
complaint to the Ombudsman. Information about how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602. If you would
prefer, we would be happy for you to confirm your eligibility with the
Ombudsman's Office, which could then confirm with us that you satisfy the
requirements of the Act.

Ashley
