Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 16 August 2023 to
DPMC for information regarding Hamilton traffic calming measures and the effect on
Emergency Services. On 24 August your request was partial y transferred to Police for
response.
My response to each part of your request can be found below.
1.
Do the Emergency services have any record of injuries to staff going over traffic
calming speed humps under the HSE Act 2015?
Since 2017 there have been no recorded injuries to Police staff in the Waikato that were attributed to speed
humps.
2.
Do the emergency services report any delays to their incidents due to lowered speed
limits and traffic calming in Hamilton?
There is no record of lowered speed limits or traffic calming measures delaying a Police response to an
incident in the Waikato.
3.
Do the emergency services have updated information from the Hamilton City Council
and Waka Kotahi of changes to the speed limit and road changes in Hamilton?
Waikato’s Road Policing Manager is invited by Hamilton City Council to submit feedback
when changes of this nature are being proposed. Police is then supplied a link to updated
information which remains the information of the Hamilton City Council that Police can
access via a web link.
Police considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information are not
outweighed by any public interest in release of the information.
Yours sincerely
Sgt Darren Hayes
