Thank you for your email of 31 October 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing information:
Please supply all communications between MBIE and Calibre partners
* On the option to appoint, as and any additional communications on the subsequent
appointment of Calibre partners as Receivers for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts.
On 28 November 2023, MBIE advised you more time was needed to respond to the request as your
request necessitated a search through a large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit
would unreasonably interfere with our operations. You were advised a response would be provided no
later than 22 December 2023. Please find MBIE’s response below.
On 27 October 2023, and pursuant to a General Security Deed dated 12 April 2007, Brendon Gibson and
Neale Jackson of Calibre Partners were appointed as receivers Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Limited (in
liquation/receivership) (RAL). The purpose of placing the company into receivership is to provide time for
decisions to be made on the future of RAL, in the interest of ensuring the best lasting outcome for these
communities.
Appendix One contains a schedule of the documents that are within scope of your request. Where
information is being released to you, copies are enclosed. Please note some information not related to
your request has been redacted as “out of scope”. In addition some information has been withheld under
the following sections of the Act:
• 9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons;
• 9(2)(b)(ii), to protect information where the making available of the information would be likely
unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the
subject of the information;
• 9(2)(h), to maintain legal professional privilege;
• 9(2)(i), to enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisation holding the
information to carry out, without prejudice or disadvantage, commercial activities; and
• 9(2)(j), to enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisation holding the
information to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations (including commercial
and industrial negotiations).
