Dear Fire and Emergency New Zealand,
Please supply the supporting evidence, if any, used by FENZ when making submissions to local and central government that shows cycleways have actually caused delays in response times.
Please also supply trend of average response times in Christchurch over past ten years or nearest available periods, if held.
Yours faithfully,
Cody C

Cody C, the response times as detailed are the total time from the time FENZ answers the call until the Appliance arrives at the incident. The 'travel" time is only a component of that total time. In addition there is the time to record the details of the call, alert the appropriate Stations, the duty crew to get out of bed and put on their PPE, its Appliance crewed and out the door and then the travel time. If it is a Volunteer Station there is a whole additional time for them to get to the station from their homes/workplace.
It is a little meaningless for FENZ to quote the total time as it doesn't tell you what the travel time is! I guess it does average out over time but the number of calls is low and the variable are high.

So, the data shows response times have actually gone down since cycleways were installed.
