Thank you for your email on 1 July 2024, asking Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the
following under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Given in the last couple of weeks there have been sudden deaths due to medical events
from a teenager, young father professional rugby player and a fit ex Al Black
I would specifically request that the pay-per-dose batch numbers associated with these
people, but more importantly all the data associated with what Mr Young released.
Please note the data can be anonymized to protect persons under the privacy act so I
require no personal data - the data was previously released this way so can be anonymized
again.
Response
I can confirm that we maintain our previous decision on request HNZ00033530. We are happy to
work with the Ombudsman’s office on this matter.
In terms of your new request for the information about three individuals, I am confirming that this
information is being refused under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect their privacy. We do not
consider that the public interest in release outweighs this harm.
