From: Landon Watt
University of Auckland
Dear James,
I refer to your request of 26 December 2023. The University’s response
follows:
“I would like to request the following statistics for each entry pathway
(First Year entry, Graduate entry, MAPAS, UTAS, regional rural admission
scheme) from 2018 to 2023:
- number of applicants into MBChB for each pathway category”
See attached.
“- number of successful applicants into MBChB for each pathway category”
The information requested for 2019-2023 is attached. As at the date of
your request, the University did not hold the requested information about
successful applicants as the 2024 MBChB admissions process had not been
finalized. This part of your request is refused under section 18(g) of the
OIA.
“- mean, minimum and standard deviation for GPA of successful applicants
for each pathway category”
“- mean, minimum and standard deviation for UCAT scores of successful
applicants for each pathway category”
““- mean, minimum and standard deviation for MMI scores of successful
applicants for each pathway category”
The information requested for 2019-2023 is attached, subject to the
following:
o Standard deviations are not calculated for successful applicants. The
University does not hold this information, and the OIA does not
require us to create it. This part of your request is refused under
section 18(g) of the OIA.
o The mean and minimum score information requested for the Students with
Disabilities, Students from Refugee Backgrounds, and Low
Socio-Economic Background UTAS is withheld under section 9(2)(a) of
the OIA protect the privacy of those students.
As at the date of your request, the University did not hold the requested
information about successful applicants for the 2024 MBChB programme as
the admissions process had not yet been finalized. This part of your
request is refused under section 18(g) of the OIA.
“- how does having a refugee background/qualifying for UTAS affect
admissions into MBChB?”
It is not clear what specific official information you are requesting.
Information about the University’s UTAS is publicly available at:
1. [1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/appl...
2. [2]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a...
3. [3]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/about-us/a...
To answer your question in broad terms:
1. An eligible MBChB applicant who has applied for admission under both
the General category and the Students from Refugee Backgrounds UTAS
category will be ranked with the other General category applicants for
offers of place. If they receive an offer under the General category,
they are not considered for an offer under the SRB UTAS. If they would
not receive an offer under the General category, they are considered
for an offer under the SRB UTAS.
