Tēnā koe Ms Woods,
I refer to your request of 29 January 2024 for “a copy of the Cost Benefit
Analysis that was done when Council instigated the Roadside Maintenance
Programme that sees the blanket spraying of roadsides with agrichemicals”.
Your request was referred to the Northland Transportation Alliance,
council’s Roading Department for consideration.
Council has been using agrichemical sprays to maintain roadside berm for
at least 25 years but has no record of a cost benefit analysis being
undertaken over that time.
The Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act allows any
member of the public to request official information held by council.
However, for the Act to apply, the information must be held by council.
This aspect of your request is refused under section 17(g) of the Act on
the basis that it is not a request for information held by council.
I hope this information is of some assistance in responding to your
request. If you believe we have not responded appropriately to your
request, you have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) of
the Act, to apply to the Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of
the decision.
