Rationale for banning dogs on Te Apiti track

Mark Thomas made this Official Information request to Department of Conservation

The request was successful.

From: Mark Thomas

Dear Department of Conservation,

Please provide a full rationale for the banning of dogs and imposing an $800 fine on the the Te Apiti track crossing above the Manawatu Gorge.

It is noted on the information board present that there was no listing of the presence any ground birds such as Kiwi in the area and it's further noted that all dogs are banned without justification including dogs with certified kiwi aversion training.

Banning dogs without justification also in many cases means the prevention of their owners also being able to enjoy the walk.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Thomas.
