Update on '"steps the electoral commission has taken in response" per OIA ref 2023/84a
D Watson made this Official Information request to Electoral Commission
The request was refused by Electoral Commission.
From: D Watson
Dear Electoral Commission,
In the following OIA you have stated that a number of reviews would be carried out in Q1 and Q2 2024, see the section "steps the electoral commission has taken in response"
https://elections.nz/assets/OIA-requests...
Please provide the documentation for these reviews - the actual documented reviews themselves -and any information about the work carried out by third parties (consulting firms etc.) or internally in relation to these reviews - for example responses to the reviews, managment or board comments, terms or reference etc.
Further can you provide the cost of these reviews.
I have been unable to find a specific update in your report on the 2023 general election.
Were there any other reviews , beyond the ones mentioned in the above OIA, that were carried out related to issues reported during the election , I am particulary interested in reviews by third parties and the responses to same.
Yours faithfully,
D Watson

Please note that drafts are official information and have the same standing under the OIA
See the Office of the Ombudsman’s official guidance on how the OIA applies to requests for draft documents.
I would like acess to these non-finalised documents please.

Dear OIA Enquiries,
You must not have seen my previous 2 replies
When will these be complete and available - I am happy to recieve draft reports. Please note that drafts are official information and have the same standing under the OIA. I disagree, thusly, with your refusal of parts of this OIA request
Please see the Office of the Ombudsman’s official guidance on how the OIA applies to draft documents.I would like acess to these non-finalised documents please. There is no need to keep documents beyond the scope of the OIA merely because they are draft.
Are there further draft audits that are not being made publically available?
I have now almost finished exploring governance, managment, strategy, technology, projects, finance, risks, 'on the ground' work and audits of the 2023 general election, across several OIA requests, 1 whole year since it took place. I have reviewed several other OIAs and the assessment performed by the office of the auditor general and your responses. I still have questions but I believe these will be answered by a closer review of documentation (or lack or documentation) you have provided thus far. I will circulate my review amoung a small group of interested persons (when I am satisfied) for comment and based on that I will seek to publish my review online.
FINALLY I would appreciate the detail of any further, future, planned audits/reviews/reports/analysis of the 2023 general election that have yet to be performed , when they will take place and who will perform them and a date when they will be available - for example have any political parties sought private reviews of the electoral commission.
The US Presidential Election is a timely reminder to us of the need to have transparent and fair elections free from political interference from any party with assurance and comfort that the election have been executed correctly, diligently and legally.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,
D Watson
