Thank you for your request of 24 September 2024 to the Minister for the Public Service, Hon Nicola Willis.
Your request, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), transferred to the Ministry of Business,
Innovation & Employment (MBIE) on 10 October 2024, is for the following information:
Please supply details of how many (and which agencies) public service agencies have
sufficient facilities to cater for their entire office based workforce coming into their home
office on any given day.
Where there is a shortfall - please supply details of numbers of employees that cannot be catered
for at each agency and any further detail that might help understand said shortfall.
For clarity sufficient facilities would encompass:
-
sufficient and suitable desk space for all workers, considering appropriate ergonomic
needs (not accommodating office workers by making them work at break out tables, or in
kitchen spaces)
-
no breaches of occupancy limits on buildings
-
sufficient amenities such as toilets, and break rooms to accommodate all staff.
Your request was transferred to MBIE, as it is the host agency of the Government Property Group, which
holds information on leases held by mandated agencies public service, which the Minister does not hold.
However, MBIE does not hold information of staff numbers within those agencies or the capacity of
fitouts to accommodate staff. As such, your request is refused under section 18(e) of the Act, that the
document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, or if you require any further assistance,
please contact
[email address].
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802
