Official Information request – 2020 report submissions 
I refer to your request for official information of 17 October 2024 in which you have requested the 
following information: 
Please provide the 96 submissions and recommendations that were received for the purposes of report led by 
Sir Wira Gardiner and Hekia Parata around 2020. 
Only the selective summary of the report or findings has been so far published where I believe the report 
submissions and recommendations outside the final report were not published. 
Under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act) the University of Waikato (University) has considered 
your request and responds as follows. 
The submissions and recommendations were received for the purposes of the Report. Therefore, the 
University refuses your request for these submissions and recommendations pursuant to section 
9(2)(ba)(i) of the Act in order to protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence, 
where  the  making  available  of  the  information,  would  likely  prejudice  the  supply  of  similar 
information,  or  information  from  the  same  source,  and  it  is  in  the  public  interest  that  such 
information should continue to be supplied. 
You  have  the  right  to  seek  an  investigation  and  review  by  the  Ombudsman  of  this  decision.
