[FYI request #29176 email]
Dear James
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 13 November 2024, in
which you requested:
Please provide all communications if any, regarding the Te Tiriti o Waitangi Hikoi
between Police and event organisers from initial notification to the 13th
November.
Police engaged with various organisers from marae, community groups, iwi, members of
the public, councils, government agencies and businesses in the weeks leading up to the
Hikoi. This occurred from September and throughout the Hikoi, covering the entirety of
New Zealand.
This results in a large amount of information in scope of your request. Your request is
refused under section 18(f) of the OIA as the information requested cannot be made
available without substantial collation and research.
I have considered whether consulting with you to refine your request, charging you for
this information, or extending the time limit for responding to your request would enable
your request to be granted. However, I have determined that these steps would not
assist.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
Marc Paynter
Inspector
New Zealand Police
