Dear Johnny,

I refer to your request of 29 November 2024.

You requested information pertaining to numerical grades (and number of
students enrolled) for LAW131 and LAW141 (2024).

However, it is possible to interpret your request in more than one way.
Could you please clarify whether your request for ‘numerical grades’ is
for ‘marks’ (or percentage values) or for the numerical value assigned to
each letter grade (i.e. A+ = 9, A=8 etc, as used for calculating a grade
point average)?

Yours sincerely,

Farleigh Quinlivan

Dear Johnny,

I refer to your request of 29 November 2024.  Thank you for confirming
that your request for ‘numerical grades’ was for marks (i.e. 61%, 78%).

The University’s response follows.

Can I please receive the following for LAW131 and LAW141 (2024):

* Highest and lowest numerical grade

* Median numerical grade

* Mean numerical grade

* Distribution of numerical grades based on the A, B, C distribution (ie.
number of A+, A, A-... grades)

* Number of students enrolled

The University does not hold final mark statistics.

Grades, not marks, are the University's final measure of academic
assessment.

Marks are used for initial calculation of grades (see
[1]https://cdn.auckland.ac.nz/assets/auckla...)
but grades may be subsequently changed for various reasons, such as
aegrotat/compassionate consideration or academic misconduct.

This constitutes a refusal of this part of your request under section
18(g) of the OIA.

The rest of the information requested is attached.

You have the right to complain to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied
with this response.

Yours sincerely,

Farleigh Quinlivan
