LLB Graduates Cumulative GPA

Dear University of Otago,

Could you please provide the cumulative GPA of all students who studied an LLB, Bcom with a major in Finance from the years 2020-2024 inclusive (ie have finished their studies by the end of semester 2 2024 and will subsequently graduate with both degrees). This need not exclude students who are studying a double major or have an additional minor for their Bcom.

Moreover, please provide the same but broaden the scope to include all students who studied an LLB, Bcom (all maj.) from the years 2020-2024 inclusive (ie have finished their studies by the end of semester 2 2024 and will subsequently graduate with both degrees).

Finally, please broaden the scope further to include all students who studied an LLB from the years 2020-24 (inclusive) and finished their studies by the end of semester 2 2024 and will subsequently graduate. Ie this will include all other majors for a (possible) second degree.

Please let me know if you have any questions. To confirm, the response data will consist of three lists.

I refer to your request for information dated 10 December 2024 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).

Would it be possible to please clarify your request? Our analysts have advised that we are unable to provide a "snapshot" of cumulative GPA as at a specific date. We are able to limit the data to students who completed their LLB studies from 2020 - 2024, but the cumulative GPA calculations for these students may include paper results for these students following completion of the LLB. For example, if a student completed their LLB in 2021, but undertook further studies at the University in 2022, these results would be included the in cumulative GPA calculation.

With this in mind, we would be able to provide you with 3x cumulative GPA distributions:
1. cumulative GPAs of students who completed an LLB and a BCom with a major in Finance from 2020 - 2024
2. cumulative GPAs of students who completed an LLB and a BCom with any major from 2020 - 2024
3. cumulative GPAs of students who completed an LLB from 2020 - 2024 (would include students who only studied the LLB, but also students doing double degrees)

Could you please confirm whether you are happy for us to proceed on this basis? Otherwise, if there is something else you are after, we would be grateful to receive this clarification from you.
