Hi Alex
While I hate to be a pedant and appreciate that there may well be legitimate grounds for an extension, I believe under S15A(4) of the OIA, you are required to:
- Provide me with the reason that my request has been extended
- Notify me of my right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman about the extension
The exact wording of the Act is:
The notice effecting the extension shall—
(a)
specify the period of the extension; and
(b)
give the reasons for the extension; and
(c)
state that the person who made the request for the official information has the right, under section 28(3), to make a complaint to an Ombudsman about the extension; and
(d)
contain such other information as is necessary.
If you're only asking for another couple of days, I don't see the need to complain to the Ombudsman.
But in the meantime, are you able to please confirm the reason my request has been extended?
Regards
Luke Doidge-Bailey

On behalf of Hon Chris Penk, thank you for your correspondence.
While Minister Penk considers all correspondence to be important, and
every message is carefully read and considered, it is not always possible
to reply personally to all emails. As such, the following guidelines
apply:
If you are a constituent in the Kaipara ki Mahurangi electorate getting in
touch about a local issue, please email
[1][email address] and the electorate office team will get
back to you.
Invitations and meeting requests will be considered as soon as possible,
and a staff member will be in contact with you in due course.
If your email message falls outside of Minister Penk's portfolio
responsibilities, expresses a personal view, or is copied to multiple
Members of Parliament, your correspondence will be noted and/or
transferred to another office.
Requests for Official Information and requests made under the Privacy Act
will be managed in accordance with the provisions of the Official
Information Act 1982 and Privacy Act 2020 respectively.
Thank you, again, for taking the time to write.
Kind regards,
Office of Hon Chris Penk
Minister for Building and Construction
Minister for Land Information
Minister for Small Business and Manufacturing
Minister for Veterans
Associate Minister of Defence
Associate Minister of Immigration

Kia ora Luke,
Thank you for your response.
This extension is required to allow for a consultation with the Minister himself prior to release. He was in Antarctica until recently - he is up in the air homebound as I write this to you - and it has been a logistical challenge in general to get things back from him due to the limited internet and cell coverage.
I do apologise for not citing that you may file a complaint regarding this extension, and for not noting the grounds as to why this extension is needed more specifically. I reiterate that we will do our best to get this to you before Friday.
Ngā mihi,
Alex
